Don’t miss Billingsgate – a must see insight into regulation in a growing trade sector

Managing sustainable fisheries is an intense area of interest  – and good delivery of regulation sits at its heart.

Operated by the City of London, Billingsgate is the UK’s largest wholesale fresh fish market, selling an average of 25,000 tonnes of fish and fish prod7385474086_9e1aa45c1c_oucts each year, approximately 40% of which comprises fish imported from abroad.

This visit will explore the issues of fisheries management, sustainability and technical regulatory support with DEFRA, the Marine Management Organisation, Seafish, the National Federation of Fishermens Organisations and retail supermarket chain Waitrose who uise the Billingsgate Seafood Training school for their managers.

The visit will conclude at the nearby Waitrose store to see how fish is displayed and sustainability messages are communicated to consumers.

Billingsgate highlights the value of working with business to protect the environment and consumers, while encouraging trade.
